Now I'm interested in learning how a cable release works. I would like to use one on my digital cameras and that old Olympus Pen that I talked about in another post. But I don't know the first thing about them. How do they mount to the camera? Could I use one for all three cameras? Thanks in advance for your help!

Allison I am not familiar with your camera but on my old film camera, a cable release actually screwed into a threaded hole on the front of the camera. For my digital cameras I have infrared remotes such as this one I use on my old drebel...... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/12935-REG/Canon_2465A001_RC_1_Wireless_Remote_Controller.html I have a generic, cheap one off ebay that I use on my 40d and it works just fine.

Thanks, Jo Ann. The Olympus Pen does have the screw threads on the shutter release itself, so I just need to find one of those!

Does anyone have a threaded cable release for sale?

Sue it looks like you can use this one for both your rebel and your Canon 7d. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/12935-REG/Canon_2465A001_RC_1_Wireless_Remote_Controller.html
