Monday October 9th 2023- Speaker Arik Gorban – “Photographing People”

These days, everybody takes pictures of people, regardless of what equipment is used or the level of the photographer. In this program, you’ll see how to take better pictures of people, whether these are formal portraits, family and kids, group shots, or informal pictures of people. The discussions will cover some camera controls, artificial lighting, posing individuals and groups, getting the right expressions, working with various light conditions (e.g., mid-day sun), positioning the subject based on the light, working in low light, and understanding white balance.

The program will be educational and entertaining. It’s structured for anyone who takes pictures, whether with a phone camera, a point and shoot, or a full-featured DSLR or mirrorless.

Arik Gorban – “Creating a Personal Photography Project”

One of the best ways to get creative, develop your photography, and

share your pictures is by working on a personal photography project. It’s a great way to keep yourself inspired and produce pictures that express your interpretation of the scenes and subjects that you’re passionate about. Unlike photographing and sharing individual images, a project allows you to create a consistent body of work that builds up an idea or a story.

In this presentation, Arik discusses the elements of a photography project and how to embark on one, whether it’s a day-long project or one that takes weeks or months to complete. The presentation covers the steps from ideation all the way to project completion with a collection of images that can be used in a book, a presentation, and/or a photo exhibit. Arik shares the actual project plans of two of his photography projects and discusses how the plans evolved from the initial ideas to detailed project definitions, once each project started.

Monday June 12th 6pm – Scavenger Hunt

The Cookeville Camera Club will be hosting a Photo Scavenger Hunt on Monday, June 12th, which is our normal meeting night. To make the most of the time before sunset (at 8PM), the hunt will start at 6PM, one hour earlier than our standard meeting time. Members of the public are welcome to join with club members on the hunt.

We will be meeting at Dogwood Park, at the start of the pathway from the Putnam County Library. Participants will receive a note card with a list of about 10 items to locate and photograph during the evening. Once you obtain the notecard, you are free to start your hunt. Participants can do the hunt either individually or in a group.

At 8:30PM, we will have a group meetup at the Cream City Ice Cream and Coffee House, located at 119 W Broad St, across from the Train Depot. This will be an opportunity to discuss our results. Participants are free to continue photographing after sunset to capture blue hour and night images.

The images from the hunt will be displayed at the club’s July 10th club meeting. To achieve this, participants must upload their images to the web within two weeks (by June 26th). Details on how to upload the images will be included on the back of the notecard that participants receive on the night of the hunt. Participants are to upload only one image of each of the items they were able to locate.

In the event of rain, club members will receive an email regarding the cancellation of the Scavenger Hunt.
