Monday April 14 – Light Painting Workshop

The workshop will be led by Bill and Sandy Miller on Light Painting on the night of the meeting.

Imagine being in a totally dark room with various still-life stations set up around the room. With your camera mounted on a tripod, a flashlight to illuminate the objects/camera settings, and using a slow shutter speed, you will trip the shutter as one person begins painting the subject with a flashlight.

In this fun, hands-on Light Painting workshop there will be multiple people at a single station where you will take turns light painting the objects as the group photographs the setup. Light painting can create dramatic results, but it requires some testing of how long to keep your shutter open and changing your camera setting as you balance these two components with the variable of applied light.

WHAT TO BRING: Your CAMERA, a TRIPOD (if you don’t have one, there will be some you can share, so don’t let that deter you), a small LED FLASHLIGHT (including color beams if you have one like that). Ideally you will have a red light on the flashlight that you can use to read and adjust your camera settings in the dark (you may want to share with a neighbor).

Location of the meeting is Cookeville Art Studio and Gallery at 186 S Walnut Ave, Suite A, Cookeville, TN 38501. Meeting starts at 7pm – Doors open at 6:45pm.
